Key Tasks:

  • To deliver lessons that inspire students to succeed to achieve the best possible outcomes.
  • To support the Assistant and Vice Principals in the leadership and management of the designated year group in line with whole school requirements, SDP, and data targets.
  • Roles and responsibilities include those of a classroom teacher as well as:
  • Leading by example, nurturing teamwork and collaboration.
  • Be a supportive colleague – a ‘critical friend’ who maintains confidentiality when necessary.
  • A good problem solver.
  • To be curious about education and committed to CPD.
  • Being flexible, having a positive attitude, and being adaptable to change.
  • To coordinate the role of Classroom Assistants working in the year group, their timetable, and their performance management in consultation with the Head of Key Stage.
  • Coordinate parental communications for your year group.
  • Support members of your team with parents when necessary.
  • Support the pastoral care and well-being of the children and staff in the year group.
  • Ensure all policies are implemented within the year group.
  • Teaching and Learning:
  • An exemplary classroom teacher who is committed to their own, and other’s professional development.
  • To raise attainment and improve classroom practice within the year group.
  • To be involved in monitoring through work sampling and planning with the Head of Key Stage.
  • To be involved in ensuring all children are challenged with additional provision for SEN/LA pupils in collaboration with the Head of Key Stage and Head of SEN.
  • To plan and book trips and visitors, responsible for meeting ADEK guidelines with the support of the Assistant Principal.
  • Organise and plan the learning environment in the outside or shared area (if applicable) working closely with the head of DT and head of HPL to develop learning in line with SDP requirements.

Assessment and data:

  • Working with the Vice Principal, to reflect on data analysis devise and deliver an action plan securing continuous development in line with the SDP and data target-setting process.
  • Behaviour Management and Duties:
  • To ensure the day-to-day running of the year group is in line with our school vision and aims.
  • Implement the Aldar Uniform Policy.
  • Celebrate and reinforce positive behaviors across the year.
  • Manage level 1 behaviors.
  • Maintain an overview of Child Protection issues as required by the Head of Inclusion (CP Officer).
  • Wider professional responsibilities:
  • Highly organized and goes the ‘extra mile’ to meet deadlines.
  • Be an innovative thinker and model a curiosity for learning, able to think outside the box and inspire others.
  • To contribute to the preparation for inspections of all types
  • Personable, enthusiastic, and committed to The Pearl Academies development.
  • To be a role model to all in all areas; professional conduct, professional teaching and learning practice, and professional development.
  • To collaborate with the SLT to ensure continuous school development.
  • To lead and implement initiatives to successfully deliver school improvement priorities.
  • Make a positive contribution to the wider life and ethos of the school.
  • Run a weekly ECA each term.
  • A Strategic direction and development of the department:
  • Develop and implement policies and practices for the department that reflect the School’s vision, aims, commitment to high standards of achievement, and effective teaching and learning.
  • Establish, monitor, and evaluate short-, medium-, and long-term plans for the development of the department.
  • Use data effectively to identify students who are underachieving in the department; create and implement plans of action to support those students;
  • Analyse and interpret relevant school data, to inform policies and department/school SEF writing.
  • Ensure that appropriate and relevant schemes of work are developed, in place, and regularly reviewed and evaluated, for all year groups and courses. These must include suitable provisions for SEN/POD, G&T, and EAL students.

Teaching and learning:

  • Ensure curriculum coverage, continuity, and progression in the department for all students including those of high ability and those with special educational needs.
  • Establish and implement clear policies and practices for assessing, recording, and reporting on student achievement.
  • Set expectations for staff about standards of achievement and the quality of teaching learning and behavior.
  • Evaluate the quality of teaching and learning of the department and use this to identify effective practice and areas for improvement; take action to further improve the quality of teaching and learning.
  • Ensure the department is regularly contributing towards the school’s interventions.
  • Leading and managing staff:
  • Performance management team by school performance management policy.
  • Establish clear expectations and constructive working relationships with the team, ensuring collaboration, support, accountability, and high professional standards.
  • Hold regular department meetings with minutes and agendas; the agenda should include a focus on improving standards relating to student achievement and teaching and learning.

Managing resources:

  • Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources;
  • Maintain efficient and effective control of the Department’s Resource and CapEx budgets.
  • Effective use of accommodation to create an effective and stimulating environment for teaching and learning by the Learning Environment Policy;
  • Ensure a safe working and learning environment in which risks are properly assessed and Health and Safety policies and regulations are observed at all times.

Other duties and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the school’s CAS Programme by leading/supporting one after-school activity each term, including leadership of Model United Nations (MUN);
  • To be an Academic Mentor and Extended Essay Supervisor to Year 12/13 students.
  • Undertake duties as part of the staff duty rota.
  • Cover for absent colleagues.
  • Invigilate examinations, as required, including a minimum of one evening and one weekend external examination session, to support the Examinations Officer and Summer Examination Schedule.
