About Pharo School Ethiopia

The Pharo School Homosha is currently one of our largest education projects, located in the Benishangul Gumuz regional state of Ethiopia. Extending over 3.4 hectares, the school is the first of its kind in the region; a modern fully-fledged campus with a 240 girls’ boarding capacity, aiming to offer the best educational opportunities to bright, driven girls from across the region.

Our focus on female education is in recognition of the challenges in accessing education, which prevents many from unlocking their full potential. This shapes Pharo School Homosha’s vision of achieving all-round academic and personal development of girls to reach their highest potential and become future leaders and role models.

The construction of the campus in Homosha started in mid-2017 and was completed in 2019. Starting in 2018, the school enrolled the first cohort of 60 grade-9 girls who started classes in a temporary campus in Assosa, and moved to the Homosha campus in 2019. The Opening Ceremony of the Pharo School Homosha took place on the 29th February 2020 and was attended by the President of the Benishangul Gumuz Region, Mr Ashadly Hasen; Minister of Education, Dr. Eng. Getahun Mekuria; DG of Civil Society Organisations Agency, Mr Jima Dilbo and some influential Ethiopian women.

The Pharo School is headed by Andrea Spinner, who has over 23 years of educational experience in various countries. Admission to the Pharo School is based on grade-8 national exam results in conjunction with a Pharo administered entry exam. The school follows the main Ethiopian curriculum but it is supplemented in Mathematics, Sciences, English, critical thinking and problem solving as well as arts and computer skills. Upon successful completion, the girls attain a High School Diploma, laying a foundation for their tertiary education.
