Salesian International Primary School is a leading Catholic educational institution in Akabane, Tokyo, Japan, launching an innovative International Class program in April 2026. We are seeking a dedicated support educator to join our team.
Position: Kindergarten and Elementary ESL (GrapeSEED) and Support Teacher - 2026-2027 School Year
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic and qualified ESL support teacher to assist with our GrapeSEED® English language program and provide classroom support across Kindergarten through Year 6 in our International Class program.
Primary Responsibilities
GrapeSEED® Program Support:
- Assist homeroom teachers in implementing the GrapeSEED® curriculum for Kindergarten through Elementary students
- Support phonemic awareness, pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and speaking activities
- Facilitate small group instruction based on English proficiency levels
- Prepare and organize GrapeSEED® materials and resources
- Monitor and document student progress in English language acquisition
Classroom Support:
- Provide instructional support to homeroom teachers during English Language Arts periods
- Assist with differentiated instruction for students at varying English proficiency levels
- Support individual students who need additional English language assistance
- Help manage classroom activities and maintain student engagement
- Assist with preparation of teaching materials and classroom displays
Assessment and Documentation:
- Help administer English language assessments and track student progress
- Maintain records of student participation and achievement in ESL activities
- Collaborate with homeroom teachers to identify students needing additional support
- Assist with parent communication regarding student English language development
General Support Duties:
- Supervise students during breaks, lunch, and transition times
- Assist with school events, field trips, and special activities
- Support morning routines and end-of-day procedures
- Help maintain organized and engaging classroom environments
- Provide pastoral care and emotional support to students as needed
Skills and Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, Applied Linguistics, or related field
- Teaching license or ESL certification preferred
- Minimum of 2 years' experience working with young learners (ages 5-12)
- Native or near-native English proficiency
- Experience with ESL/EFL instruction or language support
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a teaching team
- Patience and enthusiasm for working with diverse learners
Preferred:
- Experience with GrapeSEED® or similar structured English language programs
- Background in early childhood education or elementary education
- Experience working in international or multicultural educational settings
- Basic Japanese language skills (helpful for communication but not required)
- Knowledge of second language acquisition principles
- Experience with technology-based language learning tools

Working Conditions
- 5-day school week (Monday-Friday), Saturdays off
- School hours: 8:20 AM - 2:40 PM (Year 1) / 3:40 PM (Years 2-6)
