Candidate Requirements

The following requirements are for all teaching jobs in Abu Dhabi offered through Teach Away Inc. In order to get the appropriate work permit and visa teachers need to meet the following requirements:

  1. Native English speaking fluency, bi-lingual preferred
  2. Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree
  3. Teaching certification
  4. Minimum 2 years of teaching experience, preferred

Salary for teaching in Abu Dhabi

Teachers in Abu Dhabi can expect to make between 12,300-20,400AED, depending on teaching experience and credentials. The Ministry of Education in the UAE will inform successful teachers of their offered salaries after the interview. While exchange rates fluctuate, Abu Dhabi teachers typically make approximately $4000-$6300/month Canadian, or $3350-$5500/month American.

Flight to Abu Dhabi

Teachers who are selected to teach in Abu Dhabi public schools through Teach Away will be reimbursed for a round trip airfare. Teachers traveling with families will be provided with round trip airfare for up to 3 family members. Return tickets will be provided upon successful completion of the two year contract. Teachers will also receive a yearly air-ticket for themselves and their family in between the years of the contract.

Vacation in Abu Dhabi, UAE

Abu Dhabi public school teachers will enjoy ample vacation time usually from end-June to mid-August of each year. In addition, teachers are not required to work during any of the national holidays.

Accommodation for teachers in Abu Dhabi

All teachers working in public schools in Abu Dhabi will be provided accommodation. Housing will either be furnished or unfurnished. In the case that housing is unfurnished a furniture allowance will be paid to candidates. Locations will vary depending on the actual work placement, but usually teachers should expect to live relatively close to their teaching assignment. It is possible that teachers can live up to a 45 minute drive from their school. As accommodation in Abu Dhabi tends to be quite expensive, teachers will save approximately $40,000/year as they will not be required to pay for their housing. The Education Council in the UAE will cover the costs for the accommodation provided.
