ES Resource Teacher (K-5) Duties
- Work as assigned in long-term or short-term substitute teaching situations
- Works with students in grades K1 (4-year-olds), K2 (5-year-olds), or grades 1 to 5 in self-contained classrooms teaching all the major academic subjects (reading, writing, math, science, social studies), and works with students in grades 4 and above in subject-level classrooms only
- Primary substituting responsibilities will be to take on a long-term full-time substitute role when a teacher is on extended long-term leave
- Some substitute roles may involve teaching in a self-contained classroom teaching/homeroom for all the core academic subjects (reading, writing, math, science, social studies)
- When not fulfilling substituting duties as a teacher, provides instructional support in the SMIC-I Elementary
- When substituting, coordinate classroom human resources to deliver effective, high-quality educational opportunities to students
- K1 or K2: English speaking Chinese teacher, and a classroom assistant
- Grades 1 to 3: English speaking Assistant Teacher - Develop and follow the established SMIC-I elementary curriculum in all subject areas, including designing units and lessons to support it
- Work on elementary curriculum development in reading, writing, math, science, and social studies as assigned following the Understanding by Design (UbD) format
- Prepare effective and diverse classroom lessons to implement the school’s science curriculum following the school’s accepted methods
- Design authentic subject assessments and measure their effectiveness in meeting curricular goals
- Differentiate lesson plans to meet the needs of both struggling and advanced students.
- Collaborate with grade-level team to plan, teach, and assess interdisciplinary units
- Comfortable working with advanced motivated students who have strong academic backgrounds
- Support the work of grade-level initiatives, including sponsored student clubs/activities

Moving Allowance:
- For candidates who live abroad when hired.
- RMB 7,000 for single employees. RMB 14,000 for married employees.
- $100 (USD) excess baggage reimbursement per employee ($250 per married teaching couple with dependents).
- For candidates who live in mainland China when hired. RMB 3,000 for single employees. RMB 6,000 for married employees.
Reoccurring Flights/Transportation:
- Full-time employees are eligible for a home visit/travel subsidy for each full year of employment. In the event of partial-year employment, the subsidy payment will be made only during the months in which the employee is on the payroll.
Medical Insurance:
- SMIC offers comprehensive medical insurance coverage for all employees, both domestic and international, with minimal premium contributions from employees.
- Dependents, including spouses and children under 21, can be covered with a modest additional premium under the same plan. The employee co-payment for both premiums and treatment expenses is highly competitive, and the cap on medical expense coverage is approximately RMB 5 million annually.
Other Insurances:
- A range of insurance products for our foreign employee clients, including term life, critical illness, accidental death, and dismemberment coverage, are provided to every foreign employee.
Tuition for Dependents:
- For foreign employees, up to 2 dependents receive a tuition benefit that covers 80% of the annual tuition.
- Uniforms, transportation, meals, and textbooks are not covered.
Bonus:
- Performance-based annual bonus starting after the first full year of service.
- Teacher incentive allowance is also available.
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
- Position only open to a new-to-the-profession teacher
- Must possess a valid teaching license/certificate in elementary or early childhood education
- No more than 2 years prior teaching experience considered, preferably with early childhood or elementary-aged students
- Evidence of current relevant professional development, especially in the elementary level
- Other visa requirements as outlined by Chinese laws and regulations
