ASPV counselors are vital members of the education team. They support all students in the area of social-emotional development, ensuring today's students become the productive, well-adjusted adults of tomorrow.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with all stakeholders through a comprehensive school counseling program aligned with the American School Counselor Association (ASCA)
  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, othe.r schools, students, students’ family members, and the larger community to help meet all students’ needs.
  • Provide positive leadership in the school
  • Engage in advocacy for students and their families; provide community outreach; crisis intervention; individual and small group counseling, and classroom lessons to promote wellbeing.
  • Develop, review, assess and maintain a developmental comprehensive school counseling program.
  • Provide individual and small group counseling for the purpose of meeting and supporting individual student needs. Effectively make referral to and use the services of external specialists or agencies in the community.
  • Coordinate and deliver a developmental, preventative, and responsive core curriculum to support the academic and social/emotional development for all students.
  • Identify and develop activities and programs for the purpose of meeting the needs of students in each school.
  • Collect, interpret and analyze student related data and use data for program development, and individual student planning.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate prevention programs and activities to meet students’ needs and support school goals.
  • Provide information/resources and referrals to teachers, families and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with other educators, administrators, family members and community agencies to assist students with educational planning to ensure students’ success.
  • Develop, coordinate and implement programs and activities to enhance students’ successful transition through the different sections of the school and/or other schools (elementary to middle school, middle school to high school).
  • Provide information, feedback and recommendations to principals, parents, and/or students for classroom placement.
  • Participate in school committees and initiatives to provide student support.
  • Assist students in making satisfactory adjustments and in experiencing significant achievement.
  • Conduct psycho-educational evaluations at the request of the Elementary and Middle and High School Principals and make appropriate recommendations for services.
  • Share appropriate individual student data with teachers with due regard for confidentiality and keep records that are adequate, complete, accurate, and up-to-date.
  • Take security measures to protect the integrity of an individual student’s record for authorized and professional use only.
  • Work closely with the technology department in the coordination of the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) standardized testing program and assist in the interpretation of test data for the adjustment of the educational program to meet individual needs. 
  • Make adequate provisions for the exchange of essential information between the school staff, parents, and community leaders which will cause the school to be aware of any community problems affecting students.
  • Maintain rapport within the school and outside communities to promote productive working relationships.
  • Demonstrate attitudes which promote positive perceptions of the American School.
  • Comply with all school policies, operating procedures, and requirements.
