Hello Teachers!

Welcome to the Teach Away Telegram. This is where you can come to find monthly articles on issues that are pertinent to you as overseas teachers, or as teachers considering living and working abroad. In almost every issue, we will include a story written by one of our teachers so that you can hear about what it’s like to live and work overseas from teachers just like you! And you’ll even get to learn about the secret lives of Teach Away representatives when they lived and worked abroad in our quarterly Teach Away Tells All column.

For teachers at home eagerly looking for jobs abroad, you will always find the latest (and hottest) teaching jobs listed here. For teachers preparing for the life-changing move overseas, you’ll find some friendly advice and helpful hints. For teachers already living abroad, we’ll be including stories pertaining to your host country’s local customs, festivals, foods, and anything and everything to make this the experience of a lifetime! We always take your suggestions, so don’t be afraid to keep those ideas coming!

February 2010: Read up on the male and female perspectives on Valentine's Day in Japan from our very own Teach Away Representatives, and learn about the connection between culture shock and marriage! December 2009: In this issue, we’ve shared with you our tips on how to make the most of your international experience, and included some essential information about what you should know about travel health. October 2008: Don’t miss this issue if you want to be sure that you’re applying with a reputable overseas company or if you want to know if your recruiter is legit. You’ll also learn some valuable lessons on etiquette, and may be surprised to learn that holidays in Korea share a very special number.

June 2008: In this issue, we share with you a list of overseas embassies and remind you that as international teachers, you will be acting as ambassadors to your country. On a lighter note, you will be entertained by the interesting cultural perspectives of teachers in Korea and Thailand – learn about marriage in Korea and travelling in Thailand, through their eyes.

May 2008: This issue is a must-read for teachers and would-be teachers wondering about Teaching English as a Second Language certification. We try and help you determine whether or not you need enrol in a TESL/TEFL/TESOL course, and help you figure out how to choose the right course for you. You’ll also read a very positive teacher story about a young woman who had her fair share of ups and downs while living and working in Japan, but ultimately enjoyed the challenge.

February 2008: Read our very first issue and find out the advantages of teaching abroad, tips to master job interviews (on the phone or in person!), and read about how a teacher came to realize a positive experience abroad was dependent on his own open mind and a positive attitude.
