Position Title

MYP & DP Biology Teacher

Reports To

MYP Coordinator, DP Coordinator, and School Principal

Position Overview

The MYP & DP Biology Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in Biology within the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). The teacher promotes inquiry-based learning, scientific thinking, environmental awareness, and the development of research skills while fostering students' intellectual curiosity and academic growth.


Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Biology lessons aligned with the IB MYP and DP curricula.

Facilitate inquiry-based and student-centered learning experiences that encourage critical thinking and scientific investigation.

Develop students' understanding of biological concepts through practical laboratory work, field studies, and research activities.

Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of students.

Integrate technology and innovative teaching practices to enhance learning.

Maintain a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.

Assessment and Reporting

Design and implement formative and summative assessments in accordance with IB requirements.

Assess student learning using appropriate IB assessment criteria and standards.

Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth.

Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.

Prepare reports and communicate student progress to parents and guardians.

Guide and supervise DP students in the completion of Internal Assessments (IA) and prepare them for external examinations.

Curriculum Development

Collaborate with colleagues to develop, review, and improve curriculum documentation and unit plans.

Participate in interdisciplinary planning and collaborative curriculum initiatives.

Ensure curriculum implementation aligns with IB standards and practices.

Contribute to the development of assessment tasks and learning resources.

Student Support and Wellbeing

Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Encourage academic integrity, student agency, and personal responsibility.

Provide academic support and guidance to students.

Participate in advisory, pastoral care, and student wellbeing initiatives as required.

Professional Responsibilities

Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.

Collaborate effectively with colleagues, coordinators, and school leadership.

Engage in ongoing professional learning related to Biology education and IB programmes.

Support school-wide initiatives and contribute positively to the school community.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Life Sciences, Biology Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).

Teaching qualification/certification recognized by the relevant educational authorities.

Experience teaching Biology at the secondary school level.

IB MYP and/or DP teaching experience preferred.

Strong understanding of inquiry-based and student-centered learning approaches.

Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

    1. Housing Benefit: There is a housing benefit of €400 for a single person and €500 for a couple. (This is ample for a safe, comfortable flat throughout Prishtina)
    2. Accommodation for the First Week: Accommodation is provided during the first week while the employee searches for permanent housing.
    3. Assistance with Realtors: Support is offered in dealing with realtors to facilitate the housing search.
  2. Private Health Insurance: The employer provides private health insurance, which also covers some neighboring countries such as Albania, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, etc.
  3. Tuition: Full-time internationally hired staff shall be eligible for a tuition discount for education at ILG.
    1. First and Second Child - 100% discount
    2. Third and Subsequent Child - 0% discount
  4. Professional Development: Professional development opportunities are provided, including IB-recognized training.
  5. Flight Arrangements: 
    1. The employer covers the cost of the flight to Kosovo at the start of the two-year contract
    2. Additionally, the employer covers the cost of a return flight to and from the employee's home of record once per two-year contract (up to €1,200 against receipt)
    3. The cost of a flight out of Kosovo is also covered at the end of the two-year contract (Prorated amount of the two-way flight ticket)
  6. Cover of Document Costs: 
    1. The employer covers the costs for translation and notarization of documents required for the work visa and residency. 
    2. The employer covers the costs for translation and notarization required for the nostrification process of qualification documents.
  7. Meet and Greet:
    1. A member of the ILG team will welcome new staff at the airport and transport them to the temporary accommodation.
    2. Information will be provided about the internet, phone, the local area, and transportation.
