Job Description
BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen is seeking qualified candidates for an Elementary Teacher (4th grade) for the 2021-22 school year!
BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen is part of the BASIS International Schools network of schools in China.
BASIS International teachers are knowledgeable, passionate, and believe in transforming education. As part of a uniquely collaborative and professional teaching community, BASIS teachers motivate students to reach their highest potential, while also elevating their own skills through peer collaboration and a culture where learning is of the greatest importance. Our elementary classrooms are taught by two teachers—one Subject Expert Teacher (SET) and one Learning Expert Teacher (LET).
BASIS International Elementary Teachers are able to focus their teaching on teaching phonics, math, science, reading, and humanities.They work collaboratively with Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) to cultivate a joyful learning culture where hard work is celebrated and where intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary student outcomes. At the elementary level, LETs help you focus on instruction while they ensure individual student understanding according to student needs. As an Elementary Teacher, it is primarily your responsibility to develop engaging, content-rich subject specific lesson plans and to teach creative thinking and problem solving.
Elementary teachers establish a solid foundation of language and social science skills and knowledge. Language Arts topics covered include beginnings of reading and writing, reading comprehension, writing process, and much more. Some humanities topics covered include world history, American history, and beginnings of geographic awareness. In math and science lessons, you will incorporate practical uses for math and science in daily life. These broad and varied areas of study give elementary teachers the ability to approach the material in new and creative ways, while providing students with a broad knowledge base to build upon.

Job Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree and ability to successfully pass a background clearance.
- In addition to a Bachelor’s degree, a major (24-30 credit hours) or advanced degree in the teaching subject fulfills the highly qualified requirement. In some cases, a Bachelor’s degree and documentation of passage of a state authorized subject test in the teaching area may fulfill the highly qualified requirement.
- Minimum two years teaching experience as a lead teacher required.
Preferred:
- Subject matter postgraduate work (Master’s or Ph.D.) is preferred.
- Together with a high level of educational attainment, a successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence.
- Must be open to new ideas in teaching.

About BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen
BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen is our first bilingual school in China. Opened in September 2020 in Shenzhen's Futian District for Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 students, the campus expanded in 2021 to add middle school grades and now offers courses through Grade 12, and celebrated our first graduating class in 2025.
Initially opening with state-of-the-art classrooms, multi-activity space and office facilities, in 2021 the newly completed campus added a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, 200-meter track and soccer field, Apple computer lab, theater, and additional classrooms.
BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen combines the core of the BASIS Curriculum with much of the language, history, culture, and values of the traditional Chinese curriculum. About BASIS Bilingual Kindergarten Futian
Our second campus dedicated exclusively to Early Childhood Education opened in the fall of 2024 in Shenzhen's Futian District. BASIS Bilingual Kindergarten Futian focuses on bilingual early learning, while adhering to our joyful learning culture and ensuring every student receives a solid foundation to carry them into future BASIS education.
Teachers, staff, and families enjoy a state-of-the-art campus with spaces designed specifically with young learners in mind. The campus includes an auditorium, indoor play spaces, maker space, top-of-the-line classrooms, and much more.
Living in Shenzhen
Shenzhen is one of the fastest growing economic centers in the world, and Futian has it all on display with a beautiful, lighted skyline. About a mile from campus is Coco Park Mall with a movie theater, children's playground, and numerous international restaurants, bars and shops--such as Gap and Uniqlo.
Only approximately two miles from campus is the Shenzhen concert hall designed by Japanese architect Arata Isozaki, which attracts musicians from around the world. Across the plaza is a huge complex housing the Shenzhen library (9 million volumes) and the mega Book City that has its own English-language bookstore. The school is also close to the Shenzhen Golf Course, the Four Seasons and Ritz-Carlton Hotels, and three amusement parks.
Shenzhen shares its border with Hong Kong, and in about 15 minutes you can travel from the Futian train station to Hong Kong's West Kowloon station.
