The Grade 6 Mathematics Teacher delivers high-quality mathematics instruction that develops conceptual understanding, procedural fluency and mathematical reasoning while preparing students for future success.Key ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Delivery
- Teach mathematics aligned to AERO/Common Core standards.
- Deliver instruction in:
- Number Sense
- Fractions and Decimals
- Ratios and Proportional Reasoning
- Algebraic Thinking
- Geometry
- Statistics
- Measurement
- Problem Solving
Teaching Practice
- Use concrete, pictorial and abstract approaches where appropriate.
- Promote mathematical reasoning.
- Develop students' confidence and resilience.
- Encourage mathematical discussion.
Assessment
- Analyse student achievement data.
- Use formative assessment to inform teaching.
- Monitor progress towards attainment targets.
- Differentiate appropriately.
Classroom Environment
- Foster a positive and collaborative learning environment.
- Maintain high expectations.
- Implement effective classroom management.
Collaboration
- Plan collaboratively with Grade 6 teachers.
- Share best practice.
- Communicate regularly with parents.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in CPD.
- Contribute to school improvement initiatives.
- Maintain safeguarding standards.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics or Education.
- Teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching upper elementary or middle school mathematics preferred.
