Job Description

Responsibilities:       

  • Provide school-wide support to students, faculty and parents
  • Provide college guidance counseling to grades 11 and 12 students, including SMIC-International and SMIC GAP (Going Abroad Program) students
  • Work extensive with students, and parents/families to help them with the college application process
  • Counsel students in character building and life skills
  • Counsel MHS students as needed (individual and group)
  • Assist with updating the high school profile
  • Teach Life Skills for grades 11 and 12 including for the GAP students
  • Work with students who have specific learning or emotional/behavioral needs
  • Advise students academically, particularly those on academic probation
  • Meet with parents and teachers when necessary to develop interventions for students with academic or emotional/behavioral needs
  • Work with the Child Protection Officer (CPO) and the Child Protection Team when needed for high school students in grades 11 and 12
  • Assist afterschool Homework Club
  • Regularly update high school level life skill’s curriculum information on ATLAS
  • Assist with standardized testing duties as assigned (inclusive of, not limited to, SAT, ACT, PSAT, MAP, and possibly AP test administration; professional development presentations at faculty meetings, etc.)

  • Bachelor’s degree required in an education-related field (i.e., counseling, psychology preferred but degrees in secondary education, secondary education, or administration considered)
  • Eligible for a valid counseling, teaching and/or administrative license/certificate in secondary counseling
  • At least 8 years counseling experience (including at least 5 years of experience in college preparation guidance counseling) in a secondary school setting
  • Evidence of current relevant professional development in counseling
