Job Description

Position Summary

The MS/HS Principal provides strategic and day-to-day leadership for Middle and High School, ensuring outstanding teaching and learning, student wellbeing, staff performance, and compliance with KHDA/DSIB expectations. The Principal leads a culture of high standards, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Academic Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of the American curriculum across MS/HS to ensure strong academic outcomes.
  • Drive instructional quality through lesson observations, coaching, and professional development.
  • Use data (MAP, internal assessments, student performance trends) to improve student progress and achievement.
  • Ensure effective planning, differentiation, and assessment practices across departments.

Student Culture & Wellbeing

  • Establish a safe, structured, and respectful learning environment.
  • Lead student behaviour systems, attendance monitoring, and restorative practices.
  • Promote student wellbeing, inclusion, and positive school culture.
  • Work closely with counselors, SEN/Inclusion teams, and student support staff.

Staff Leadership & Performance Management

  • Manage, support, and evaluate MS/HS teaching and leadership teams.
  • Ensure timely completion of performance evaluations and probation reviews.
  • Build a strong professional culture through accountability, communication, and recognition.
  • Lead staff retention strategies and support succession planning.

Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with school policies (EPolM / EProcM) and KHDA/DSIB requirements.
  • Oversee daily operations including schedules, supervision duties, timetables, and academic planning.
  • Lead inspections readiness and maintain evidence for governance and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate staffing needs with HR, including recruitment planning and onboarding support.

Parent & Community Engagement

  • Build strong relationships with students, parents, and staff.
  • Handle parent concerns professionally and ensure resolution within expected timelines.
  • Represent MS/HS leadership during meetings, events, and community activities.

Ignite School offers a KG1 to Grade 12, American education experience leading to a High School Diploma for Emirati and expatriate students.  The Ignite School curriculum aligns to the New York State Learning Standards, which includes the New York State P-12 Common Core Learning Standards (moving to NYS Next Generation Standards) as well as KHDA guidelines.  

Ignite School commenced classes in September 2018 and now has more than 1400 students enrolled for KG1 to Grade 9.  We anticipate opening Grades 10 and 11 in 2024/25 followed by Grade 12 in 2025/26 with a capacity for 2,000 Emirati and expatriate students.  High School will offer Advanced Placement tracks.  We have just achieved NEASC candidacy status and expect full accreditation in 2023/24.
