BASIS International School Nanjing is seeking qualified candidates for an Elementary Math and Science Teacher for 2023!
Our network has continued to grow with BASIS International Schools Park Lane Harbour and Hangzhou opened in 2018, BASIS International School Nanjing in 2019, and our first bilingual school, BASIS Bilingual School Shenzhen, in 2020. We are continuing to expand and grow into new cities and seeking talented educators to grow with us!
BASIS International Elementary Subject Expert Teachers canching on a specific subject rather than preparing lessons for several subjects every day. They work collaboratively with Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) to cultivate a joyful learning culture where hard work is celebrated and where intellectual pursuits result in extraordinary student outcomes. At the elementary level, let's help you focus on instruction while they ensure individual student understanding according to student needs. As an Engineering Subject Expert Teacher, it is primarily your responsibility to develop engaging, content-rich subject-specific lesson plans and to teach creative thinking and problem-solving.
Elementary Math and Science teachers stimulate and encourage students’ natural curiosity while teaching foundational math concepts. Teachers have the freedom to present and teach the concepts in their way. Basic addition and subtraction turn into practical applications such as making change, the scientific method shows students how everyone uses science in daily life. A teacher’s passion can spark a lifetime of interest and learning, and we encourage our Subject Expert Teachers to allow their enthusiasm for their subject to inspire their students.
Primary Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Prepare subject-specific lessons in Math and Science for elementary-aged students.
- Provide subject instruction on a higher level than grade standard, in an interactive learning environment, and deliver exceptional results for all students.
- Implement BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments to ensure students’ education is at an internationally competitive level.
- Collaborate with other BASIS International teachers to form a community of smart, talented, and interesting people who are passionate about education and readily willing to work in a professional, academic environment.
- Tutor students in content-specific knowledge and skills to heighten the trajectory of students’ academic and career success.
- Manage student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, and individuality in all students.

Job Requirements
Job Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree and ability to successfully pass a background clearance.
- In addition to a Bachelor’s degree, a major (24-30 credit hours) or advanced degree in the teaching subject fulfills the highly qualified requirement.
- In some cases, a Bachelor’s degree and documentation of passage of a state authorized subject test in the teaching area may fulfill the highly qualified requirement.
- Minimum two years of teaching experience as a lead teacher required.
Preferred:
- Subject matter postgraduate work (Master’s or Ph.D.) is preferred.
- Together with a high level of educational attainment, a successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence.
- Must be open to new ideas in teaching.

Opened in September 2019, BASIS International School Nanjing serves students in grades Pre-K through 12, with a capacity of 1,200 students. The school's facilities include top-of-the-line classrooms, sport courts, track and field, heated indoor swimming pool, auditorium, Apple computer lab, and multipurpose activity center. In 2023 the first graduating class of the school achieved outstanding college acceptances, including Oxford and Imperial College London--with all graduates receiving offers from Top 50 U.S. universities.
The school is located in Nanjing's Quixia University Town District, close to universities, with many walkable streets and parks, and easy subway access to city living around downtown Nanjing.
Living in Nanjing
Nanjing is one of China's most culturally vibrant cities. The walled city has numerous museums and temples to explore, but don't mistake that for it being stuck in the past. It has Asia's largest high-speed rail station that can get you to cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Zhengzhou, Chongqing, Xiamen, and Shenyang within a few hours. The closest tier-one city, Shanghai, is 1.5 hours away by bullet train making it an easy weekend getaway. The nearby Purple Mountain offers a multitude of hiking and scenic walks just outside the city.
The school is located within a 15-minute walk to the modern metro, which offers clean, reliable, low-cost transportation to the entire city. One metro stop away is one of the city's largest malls with an imported-goods section, and around the school's nearest metro stop are several restaurants offering Asian and Western choices.
The school is tucked into a growing area of the city, and our neighborhood has several parks and outdoor recreational areas. But we're just a 30-minute Didi car ride (think Uber, but less expensive) from the city center. And like most of China, you can have restaurant meals, groceries, household items, and clothing delivered to your door quickly and for either no cost or the equivalent of a few U.S. dollars.
