Prior experience in teaching overseas, especially in the developing world countries would be a huge benefit alongside openness to new cultures. The school is a multicultural environment but with its predominantly (if not exclusively) Mongolian student body, respect for and understanding of local customs and traditions is expected.

Having taken AP CS in high school will also be a huge advantage even in the absence of prior experience teaching the course, as it would allow the teacher to capitalize on their experience as a student to conduct their course in the most engaging and useful manner.

To be considered for this position, the applicant must provide in this order:

  • A short video introducing yourself and explaining why you are an excellent candidate, not to exceed 3 minutes in length.
  • A cover 1-2 page cover letter specifically styled for this vacancy, discussing your interest in the role, your qualifications and experience for this role, your philosophy of education, and your passion for education.
  • A complete CV showing all employment experiences, dates, name of employer, specific grades and subjects, and reason for leaving. Any gaps in employment must be included and explained.
  • Applicants should have at least two years of classroom teaching experience in a secondary (middle or high) school and will have some international school experience, possess a government-issued teaching license, provide 3 supervisory references to be contacted, have excellent English verbal, and written skills, and a Bachelor or Master degree in science education or science field (Physics, Biology, Chemistry). Kindly note: teacher colleague/parent/students referees will not be considered at this time.

An online interview with the HR Office and the Dean of Academic Affairs for International Curricula will be conducted upon receipt of these documents.

  • Employer-paid accommodation
  • Health insurance
  • Fully-furnished accommodation (studio apartment). The school will pay the electricity, heating, cable, internet, and maintenance fees
  • Airport pickup, a travel allowance of $2000 paid upon completion of the academic year.

The computer science teacher will be responsible for instructing computer science to students at the high school level. In particular, the teacher is expected to spearhead the efforts to roll out the AP Computer Science and AP CS Principles courses for the first time.

The teacher will teach in high school (Gr.10-12). Note that English is taught from Gr.1 and, therefore, students have full command of written and spoken English. The school will provide all necessary resources to facilitate the teaching process, including ensuring the availability of computers and high-speed internet connection in the classroom.

The maximum teaching hours per week are 25 hours (40 minutes each), but we try to ensure that our teachers have fewer hours. AP class sizes vary between 15-25 students.

The first independent national school in the country - Hobby School was founded in 1994, to educate the next generation of Mongolian intelligentsia, against a backdrop of tough economic conditions, rapidly growing urban population, and crumbling public education system.

Hobby School is accredited by the Capital City Education Department of Mongolia and follows the State-approved General Secondary Education Curriculum of Mongolia. All students are issued an official Mongolian State Complete Secondary Education Certificate upon graduation.

In the academic year of 2021-2022, the school has an enrollment of about 1000 students, in grades 1 to 12 (ages 6 to 17, approximately).

The school's name, despite lending an aura of leisure, is deeply meaningful. The inspiration for the school followed on Eurasian Hobby (Falco Subbuteo). Falcons are revered by Mongolians as symbols of courage and vigor.

Today, the school is widely recognized as one of the best secondary education institutions in the country. In line with the founder Dr. Oyuntsetseg's vision of nurturing the next generation of Mongolian intelligentsia, Hobby School keeps its tuition fees at levels far below its peer schools in order to ensure accessibility for families from different socio-economic backgrounds. 40% of the total student body receives tuition fee waivers ranging from 10%-100%.

In addition to following the State-approved General Secondary Education Curriculum of Mongolia, the school implements an immersion-based program of English instruction. Hobby School was the first school in Mongolia to introduce The International Primary Curriculum and The International Middle Years Curriculum. The school was also the first to adopt AP courses into its curriculum. The bilingual nature of the curriculum results in added workload on our students.
