JCS Full-time Certified Teacher Job Description

Job Purpose

To carry out the professional duties of a teacher in accordance with the school’s policies under the supervision of the general director and the academic coordinator.  To plan, prepare and deliver instructional activities to assigned students.  To evaluate students’ progress and tailor instruction based on students’ needs to support their learning.


Work Hours:  7:30am - 4:00pm


Supervisor:  Academic Coordinator


Planning, Teaching, and Class Management Responsibilities 


  • Create a positive educational climate for students to learn in. 
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities based on curricula.
  • Actively communicate pedagogy intentions with supervisors.
  • Create instructional resources for use in the classroom. 
  • Work with program coordinators to ensure performance goals are being met. 
  • Create lesson plans following JCS’ lesson planning guidelines.
  • Apply the curricula objectives to create lessons that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served.
  • Utilize a variety of teaching and assessment methods. 
  • Observe and evaluate student's performance. 
  • Maintain grade books, attendance records and complete other administrative tasks.
  • Prepare and distribute accurate and informative reports on students’ progress. 
  • Be aware of and make provision for students with special educational needs (SEN).
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by following the school’s approved disciplinary procedures.


Other Professional Responsibilities 


  • Supervise students at break and lunch according to the rota
  • Cooperate with other staff to ensure the sharing and effective usage of resources to the benefit of the school and students.
  • Invest in personal and professional development (PPD) through research, observations and feedback from others.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings, training sessions and parent conferences.
  • Actively communicate with parents using the pre-approved channels of communication.
  • Participate in school events and field trips on an “as needed” basis.
  • Uphold the school’s values to contribute to a positive Christian ethos.

Established in 2000 in Jarabacoa, La Vega. Dominican Republic. Jarabacoa Christian School was founded by a group of missionaries from the United States together with a local board of directors to make something from Jarabacoa for Jarabacoa. The school started as a small elementary school only and gradually grew throughout the years and we now have over 400 students from Pre-K 2 to 12th grade.

Jarabacoa Christian School (JCS) is a private, nonprofit, Christian bilingual (English and Spanish) school located in Jarabacoa, a small mountain town in the Dominican Republic.

JCS was established by the people of Jarabacoa for the people of Jarabacoa. Our motto is “Family, Faith, Future.”

Our Mission:

Our mission is to provide a bilingual and spiritual-based educational program in a family-oriented environment. We encourage students to develop critical thinking with a worldwide view by incorporating modern teaching techniques, which will enable them to achieve success and become better citizens.

Family: 
Our maximum class size is 23 children, so every teacher knows each and every one of their students. One of our goals is to provide a higher level of education to any student who desires academic excellence while maintaining a close, familial environment in which students can develop academically, socially, and personally.

JCS believes that the purpose of education is to teach our students to respect others, to prepare for their future as Christians in the world, to teach them to live according to Christian values, and to develop them into future good citizens.
