What We're Looking For
The Director of Upper School supports a culture of academic excellence and ensures the success of the students in the Middle and High School grades. This position is highly focused on academics and is responsible for establishing student and teacher support programs that lead to exceptional student outcomes. Through elevated expectations of student capabilities and a willingness to ensure that all students have the support they need to be successful, our Director of Upper School will take a data driven approach to assessing student needs, and thus allocate the resources needed to enhance their educational experience. In support of teaching excellence, the Director will also work closely with and coach teachers on instructional methods, lesson planning and development, and student engagement.
Your Primary Responsibilities
- Manage the secondary school faculty, leading their professional development and monitoring their performance in a way that creates a culture of coaching and inspires teachers to enhance their teaching and student results.
- Manage the upper school Dean(s), and work closely with the counselors, to coordinate academic and social-emotional support for all grades 5-12 students.
- Build and maintain relationships with students, teachers and parents to effectively communicate academic or behavioral performance plans.
- Provide support to teachers regarding student achievement, classroom management, and overall best practices.
- Escalate and resolve areas of concern as raised by teachers, parents, and students.
- Lead grade and / or subject team level and staff meetings.
- Monitor student disciplinary records and academic performance.
- Contribute effectively to the Academic and Senior Leadership teams to meet school goals.
- Participate in and contribute to admissions events
- Participate in other school-based events and initiatives and develop a culture in the Upper School where teachers also want to contribute to the school as whole beyond their own classroom.
- Advise the Head of School, and other school leaders, on key initiatives and management

Job Requirements
Position Qualifications
- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree; Master’s degree preferred.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in an educational environment.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a school leadership role.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with students, teachers and parents.
- Sound understanding of creating academic plans and approaches to learning, with documented positive student outcome results.
- Extensive experience working with middle and high school students and teachers.
- Experience managing and developing teachers
- Together with a high level of educational attainment, a successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence.
- Critically, an applicant should possess a high GPA in their major, excellent recommendations, and be open to new ideas in education.
- Must pass a comprehensive background check
