Elementary Music Teacher – Job Description
The Elementary Music Teacher fosters a love of music while developing students’ musical skills, creativity, and appreciation through engaging, age-appropriate instruction. The teacher provides a positive and inclusive learning environment that supports the social, emotional, and academic development of elementary students.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver developmentally appropriate music instruction aligned with the school’s curriculum
- Teach fundamental music concepts such as rhythm, melody, pitch, tempo, and dynamics
- Lead students in singing, movement, listening, and basic instrumental experiences
- Integrate music with other subject areas to support cross-curricular learning
- Prepare students for performances, concerts, and school events
- Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback
- Manage classroom routines and ensure a safe, engaging learning environment
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and specialists
- Communicate effectively with parents and school leadership
- Participate in school events, meetings, and professional development
Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Music, or a related field
- Teaching certification (Elementary or Music preferred)
- Experience working with elementary-aged students
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills
- Ability to engage young learners through creativity and movement
Personal Attributes:
- Enthusiastic, patient, and student-centered
- Creative and energetic
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
