Job Description
Responsible for delivering a dynamic, engaging, and developmentally appropriate PE program that promotes physical fitness, skill development, teamwork, and a lifelong appreciation for health and wellness. The teacher will create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment while implementing a structured curriculum aligned with school standards and expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching & Learning
- Plan and deliver high-quality PE lessons that promote physical literacy, fitness, sportsmanship, and healthy lifestyle habits.
- Teach a range of skills in team sports, individual sports, movement, fitness, and wellness.
- Adapt lessons for students with diverse abilities and needs, ensuring an inclusive environment.
- Assess student progress through observation, skill demonstrations, fitness assessments, and performance tasks.
Classroom & Behavior Management
- Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging environment in all PE settings (indoors, outdoors, gyms, fields).
- Establish clear expectations for behavior, teamwork, and respect.
- Manage equipment and ensure safety procedures are followed consistently.
Curriculum & Program Development
- Implement and refine a standards-based PE curriculum aligned with school expectations.
- Contribute to athletics, health education, extracurricular sports, and schoolwide wellness initiatives.
- Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary connections and whole-child development.
Student Support & Engagement
- Motivate students to participate actively and confidently in physical activities.
- Provide individualized feedback to encourage growth, resilience, and healthy habits.
- Promote teamwork, cooperation, and positive social interactions.
Professional Responsibilities
- Supervise students during classes, transitions, and sports activities.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development sessions, and school events.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Uphold school values, policies, and student safeguarding guidelines.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, Kinesiology or related field.
- Experience teaching PE at the appropriate grade level (elementary, middle, or high school).
- Strong knowledge of sports rules, fitness training, and injury prevention.
- Experience coaching teams or leading extracurricular sports (preferred).
