Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Classroom Practice
- Deliver evidence of student-centered, differentiated instruction, meeting the developmental, academic, and socio-emotional needs of diverse learners.
- Foster an inclusive classroom environment that encourages inquiry, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion of literature and nonfiction texts.
- Teach a range of ELA courses (Grades 7–12), including AP English Language and AP English Literature, ensuring vertical alignment of skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening.
- Curriculum, Planning & Assessment
- Develop and adapt instructional materials to accommodate varied learning styles and readiness levels.
- Create and administer a range of formative and summative assessments—essays, timed writings, creative projects, reading journals, quizzes, and exams.
- Provide timely and constructive feedback to support student growth in analytical writing, rhetorical skills, and literary analysis.
- Prepare students for AP examinations through targeted instruction, practice assessments, review sessions, and study resources.
Professional Responsibilities
- Run one After-School Activity (ASA) (approx. 1 hour per week).
- Fulfill assigned school duties throughout the school day
- Attend and actively support mandatory school events (Back-to-School Night, International Day, etc.) and volunteer with PTO events when possible.
- Uphold school-wide policies, including phone-free expectations and consistent behavior management aligned with school values.
- Collaborate with colleagues for interdisciplinary planning, team teaching, and school- wide events
Qualifications
- ● Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Linguistics, Education, or a related field (required).
- ● Master’s degree in English, Education, or a related field (preferred).
- ● Valid teaching certification/license in English/Language Arts (preferred).
- ● Training or experience with AP English Language and/or AP English Literature (highly preferred).

The American International School of Bamako is an independent college-preparatory day school offering a dynamic, student-centered educational program for students from Pre-kindergarten through grade 12. The current enrollment is about 150 students. Our student body is fully international and includes students representing more than 35 nationalities.

Curriculum

Campus
AISB’s new campus opened in 2011 and is set on 5 hectares overlooking the beautiful Niger River. Our bright, inviting classrooms surround courtyard gardens. The campus outdoor areas include landscaped grounds with playground equipment, two swimming pools, gardens, covered areas, a soon-to-be-covered ball court, and athletics fields.
Our Elementary wing is composed of spacious classrooms, play, and garden spaces. The Secondary wing comprises classrooms, a science lab, a workout room, and student lounge, and study areas. The Arts wing includes two computer labs, the library, a maker space, our performing and visual arts facilities, a large events terrace overlooking the river, and a catering kitchen for lunch service.
The campus offers wireless Internet access throughout.
Community
Inspired and supported by the Malian culture of warmth, dignity, and graciousness, the AISB community is proud of its long history of warmth and welcome. AISB’s active Parent-Teacher Organization is an important contributor to the school, and AISB students, faculty, and families go out of their way to welcome new members of the community.
