Job Description

Job Overview

The PE Teacher is responsible for teaching physical education and promoting the importance of health, fitness, and well-being among students. The role involves planning, delivering, and assessing PE lessons across various age groups, ensuring that students are active, engaged, and developing their physical skills. The PE Teacher will foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and a positive attitude toward fitness, while ensuring the safety and well-being of all students during physical activities. 

 

Key Responsibilities

1.     Teaching and Lesson Planning

  • Plan and deliver engaging and age-appropriate PE lessons that align with the school’s curriculum and focus on developing students' physical, social, and emotional skills. 
  • Teach a wide range of physical activities and sports, including but not limited to, athletics, team sports, individual sports, fitness routines, and cooperative games. 
  • Develop lesson plans that incorporate a variety of activities designed to improve students’ strength, coordination, flexibility, and endurance. 
  • Integrate health education, including topics such as nutrition, fitness, and personal well-being, into PE lessons. 


2.     Assessment and Student Progress:

  • Monitor and assess students' progress in physical education, providing constructive feedback on skills, effort, and development. 
  • Use a variety of assessment methods, such as practical evaluations, self-assessment, and peer reviews. 
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and provide appropriate support to help all students succeed. 


3.     Classroom Management

  • Create a positive and safe environment for students to learn and participate in physical activities. 
  • Manage student behavior during PE classes, ensuring that students follow safety procedures and respect each other. 
  • Set clear expectations for students' conduct during lessons and monitor their progress. 


4.     Physical Health and Fitness Promotion

  • Encourage students to lead healthy, active lifestyles both inside and outside of school. 
  • Foster a love of physical activity and sportsmanship, helping students develop lifelong habits of exercise and wellness. 
  • Provide individualized support and encouragement to students who may face physical or emotional challenges in the activities. 


5.     Extracurricular Activities

  • Organize and oversee extracurricular sports and fitness activities, such as school teams, tournaments, fitness challenges, or after-school clubs. 
  • Encourage student participation in local and regional sports events and competitions. 
  • Provide additional support and training to students interested in pursuing specific sports or physical activities. 


6.     Health and Safety

  • Ensure that all physical activities are conducted safely, with appropriate warm-ups, cool-downs, and equipment handling procedures. 
  • Educate students on the importance of warming up, stretching, and cooling down to prevent injuries. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment for physical activities and report any safety hazards to the appropriate personnel. 
  • Monitor students' physical health and fitness levels and address any concerns with parents, guardians, or school health staff. 


7.     Professional Development

  • Collaborate with other PE teachers and school staff to develop and improve the PE curriculum and extracurricular programs. 
  • Attend professional development sessions, workshops, and conferences to stay current with trends in physical education, health, and fitness. 
  • Work with the school community to promote physical education and encourage a school-wide focus on health and fitness. 


8.     Parental and Community Communication

  • Communicate with parents regarding students’ progress in PE, highlighting strengths and areas for improvement. 
  • Provide parents with information on how they can support their children’s physical development and well-being. 
  • Engage with the wider school community to promote physical education, health, and wellness initiatives. 

 

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, Sports Science, or a related field (master's degree preferred). 
  • Teaching certification in physical education. 
  • Proven experience teaching physical education in a school setting (Experience in American school system preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of various sports, fitness routines, and physical health practices. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to motivate, engage, and inspire students of all abilities. 
  • Knowledge of health and safety protocols related to physical activities. 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills. 
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team. 
  • Passion for physical fitness and a commitment to promoting health and wellness in students. 


Working Conditions

  • Full-time position with classroom-based work, including outdoor or gymnasium sessions. 
  • Teaching hours as per the school’s schedule. 
  • Regular participation in extracurricular activities such as sports teams, events, and after-school programs. 
  • Occasional evening or weekend work for school events, competitions, or activities.
