Job Description

Position Summary:
The Principal serves as the instructional and administrative leader of the school, responsible for fostering a positive learning environment aligned with the values of an American-style education. The Principal oversees all aspects of academic, operational, and student affairs to ensure excellence in education, student development, faculty performance, and community engagement. This role requires cross-cultural sensitivity, strong leadership, and a deep understanding of international education.

Responsibilities and Duties include but are not limited to:

Academic Leadership:

  • Oversee curriculum implementation in alignment with U.S. educational standards (e.g., Common Core, AP, etc.).
  • Lead curriculum development, instructional strategies, and academic planning.
  • Monitor student performance data to ensure continuous improvement.

Faculty & Staff Management:

  • Hire, supervise, and professionally develop teaching and administrative staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and professional school culture.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback and training.

Student Affairs:

  • Promote a safe, inclusive, and disciplined learning environment.
  • Address behavioral and academic issues with consistency and fairness.
  • Support extracurricular, sports, and community service programs.

Community & Parent Engagement:

  • Maintain strong communication with parents and guardians.
  • Represent the school in community events and maintain positive public relations.

Operations & Compliance:

  • Ensure school policies comply with Guatemalan educational regulations and U.S. accreditation standards (if applicable).
  • Manage the school calendar, scheduling, and day-to-day operations.
  • Collaborate with the administrative team on budgeting, safety procedures, and strategic planning.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in school leadership, preferably in an international or American curriculum setting.
  • Excellent cross-cultural communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong time management, project coordination, resource allocation, task prioritization, workflow management, and strategic planning skills.
  • Visionary leadership with the ability to motivate and inspire.
  • Patience, empathy, and cultural sensitivity.
  • Flexibility to quickly adapt to changing situations and needs. 
  • Experience working with teachers and students from diverse cultural backgrounds and varying levels of English proficiency is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Spanish is a plus.
