School Board Trustee – Inclusive Education Expert (Voluntary Position)

 

Location: United Arab Emirates
Position Type: Independent Non-Executive Trustee (Voluntary)
Time Commitment: approximately 15–25 hours per year

 

Ignite School Dubai is seeking an experienced and passionate Inclusive Education Expert to join its Board of Trustees as an independent, non-executive trustee.

 

This voluntary governance role provides an opportunity to contribute to the strategic direction and continuous improvement of a growing American curriculum school while helping ensure that all students, including Students of Determination (SoD), have access to high-quality educational opportunities and outcomes.

 

About the Role

The Inclusive Education Trustee provides independent expertise and strategic guidance to the Board of Trustees on matters relating to inclusion, equity, accessibility, student support, and educational provision for diverse learners.

 

Working at governance level, the trustee supports the Board in holding school leadership appropriately accountable for the quality of inclusive practices and outcomes, while respecting the distinction between governance and operational management.

 

The trustee contributes an external perspective on inclusive education, helping the Board evaluate policies, monitor progress, and ensure alignment with UAE inclusion priorities, KHDA expectations, and international best practice.

 

Key Responsibilities

The successful trustee will:

·       Attend four (4) quarterly Board of Trustees meetings annually (approximately two hours each) in person.

·       Participate in the annual KHDA/DSIB governance meeting during school inspections.

·       Review board papers and governance reports in advance of meetings.

·       Provide independent strategic advice and constructive challenge regarding inclusion and student support.

·       Champion inclusive education at board level and support informed decision-making.

·       Help the Board monitor the effectiveness of provision and outcomes for Students of Determination and other identified student groups.

·       Support the review and ongoing development of inclusion-related policies and strategic priorities.

·       Maintain strict confidentiality and act at all times in the best interests of the school and its students.

·       Commitment to inclusive education, student well-being, and equitable outcomes for all learners.

·       UAE-based and able to attend board meetings in person when required.

·       Commitment to confidentiality and ethical governance.

 

Desirable

·       Experience in a senior leadership role within a school or educational organisation.

·       Familiarity with KHDA, DSIB, UAE inclusion requirements, or international school environments.

·       Previous board, trustee, governance, or advisory experience.

·       Experience working with Students of Determination and their families.
