Westview Cambodian International School is a 6th to 12th-grade institution based on best teaching practices. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, we are dedicated to preparing our students to be socially committed leaders and responsible citizens who are successful in a local and global environment. We focus not only on academic excellence, but the essential elements necessary to succeed, including resilience, perseverance, developing a growth mindset, and maintaining an open mind. Core classes are taught in English and are aligned with the American Common Core Standards. The remainder of the day is reserved for Khmer language, culture, history, geography, and civics classes taught in Khmer, to ensure that students are well-versed in their heritage language and culture.

The Roles of School Counselor:

  • To offer counseling and support services to students with problems with their general well-being due to personal, social, or emotional issues.
  • To support and help school teams better identify and handle social, emotional, and mental health concerns affecting students to enhance learning results.
  • Establish effective working relationships with every individual in the Westview community.
  • To support the safeguarding and promoting of all students' health and wellbeing.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To provide individual and group counseling to students to help them understand and resolve social or behavioral difficulties
  • To provide counseling to individuals and small groups according to the needs of the students.
  • To work with students to promote abilities including planning, time management, and productive study habits
  • To assist students in creating attainable academic and career goals and a strategy to attain them
  • To assess students' skills and interests using psychological tests, interviews, and individual planning
  • To deliver classroom guidance lessons/health curriculum  on various SEL topics
  • To promote positive, cooperative, and supportive interactions with the administration, parents, and resource agency representatives.
  • To demonstrate the utmost professionalism and respect when dealing with school personnel, parents, students, and other members of the community
  • To keep the necessary confidential records and store them safely.
  • To inform students, staff, and parents about the counseling service and the school counselor's role.
  • To create plans for fostering emotional resilience among students and staff.
  • Collaborate with the school's administration, teachers, and staff to create plans for protecting the well-being of each student and the school community as a whole.
  • To submit timely reports to the Academic Manager for services rendered, such as session notes and incident reports.
  • Collaborate and communicate with teachers, parents/caregivers, and other staff members to determine the students' support needs.
  • To work together and network with staff from other organizations to seek expert specialists when necessary.
  • To review and assess the service on an ongoing basis.
  • To be accountable for one's professional advancement.
