Job Description

At GCB we believe education helps young people build a sense of life and grow into creators of the future. This is the purpose that guides our educators every day. To bring that purpose to life, we are welcoming applications from an exceptional Science & Social Studies Teacher (Cambridge Primary Stage 1) to join our learning community!

What you will do
In this role, you will design and lead rich, developmentally appropriate learning experiences in Science and Social Studies for Cambridge Grade 1 learners, supporting children at the earliest stage of their primary journey in a bilingual, internationally minded environment.

At GCB, Grade 1 is where curiosity becomes a habit: you will nurture students’ natural wonder about the world by planning lessons that prioritize hands-on investigation, structured talk, purposeful play, and meaningful literacy connections. You will guide learners to observe closely, ask questions, sort and compare, and begin to explain simple phenomena through age-appropriate reasoning and evidence.

In Social Studies, you will help students make sense of identity, community, and place—inviting them to explore roles, rules, belonging, and local culture while developing empathy, respect, and a growing awareness of the wider world.

Your practice will reflect strong alignment with Cambridge Primary approaches, ensuring clear learning intentions, careful scaffolding, and a steady build-up of foundational concepts and vocabulary. You will use formative assessment deliberately—observations, check-ins, student talk, and simple products of learning—to identify misconceptions early and to plan next steps that meet students where they are.

Collaboration is central at GCB: you will work closely with homeroom colleagues and specialist teams to integrate science and social understanding into interdisciplinary units, strengthen language development through content, and create consistent routines that help young learners feel confident, safe, and motivated.

You will also build a warm partnership with families through clear communication about progress, learning goals, and practical ways to extend curiosity at home.

Job Requirements
The ideal candidate will hold, at minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Education, Primary Education, Science, Social Studies, or a closely related field. A Master’s degree and/or a PGCE/PGDE is highly preferred, particularly with evidence of strong training in primary inquiry pedagogy and curriculum planning.

Candidates should bring at least three to five years of successful teaching experience, ideally within international or bilingual schools, with demonstrated strength in early primary teaching and an ability to make scientific and social concepts accessible, joyful, and rigorous for young learners.

A valid teaching credential is required; Cambridge teaching and assessment training is highly desirable, as is familiarity with international professional standards such as CICTT.

Native English speakers are strongly preferred. Candidates whose first language is not English must provide evidence of proficiency at a minimum C1 level of the CEFR, demonstrated by an internationally recognized credential such as IELTS ≥ 7.0, TOEFL iBT ≥ 95, or Cambridge C1 Advanced / C2 Proficiency.
