Job Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The primary function of the Guidance Counselor is to provide a comprehensive counseling program focused on the learning, person/social and university/career needs of all students. Utilize leadership, integrity, and wisdom to promote student success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified student needs by implementing a program that addresses academic, personal/social development, university studies and career for all students. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • An earned Bachelor's Degree in Education or similar field from an accredited institution
  • Hold or be eligible for a valid teaching/counseling licensure (highly preferred) 
  • Successful teaching and/or counseling experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Coordinate guidance and student support activities in collaboration with the area principal.
  • Adhere to and support board policy, school guidelines, administrative rules and directives.
  • Communicate the goals of the counseling program to education stakeholders
  • Implement developmentally appropriate group activities to meet student needs and school goals.
  • Assist all students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals and plans. 
  • Engage in the school admissions process, including, but not limited to testing, interviews, and written reports. 
  • Support student support teams in addressing social-emotional needs of students.
  • Oversees all facets of College Board, AP, SAT, and PSAT. 
  • Assist in the development of departmental guidelines and assume the responsibility for the implementation of these guidelines.
  • Coordinate departmental activities and serves as a liaison with other school counselors.
  • Conduct professional development for faculty and staff on child protection, SEL learning, and best practices.  
  • Meet periodically with the area principal relative to development, implementation, and monitoring of graduation requirements. 
  • Prepares and distributes appropriate records and reports as required by ministry of Education (MINERD) and international accreditation guidelines/requirements. 
  • Collaborate with parents and community groups in understanding guidance programs(graduation requirements, college admissions, advanced placement, diagnostic testing, etc.)
  • Oversees, assists and participates in the development and delivery of all school to career programs and events. 
  • Measures results of the school counseling program activities and shared results as appropriate. 
  • Keeps informed of the progress and new developments in the field of counseling. 
  • Assumes responsibility for own professional growth and development.
  • Perform such duties and functions related to the area of specialty as determined by the principal.
  • This position includes the duties and responsibilities as assigned by the area principal.
