Job Description

Position Overview

SISU School of Ulaanbaatar is seeking a passionate, creative, and student-centered English Language Arts (ELA) Teacher for Middle and High School students. The successful candidate will deliver engaging instruction aligned with the American Common Core curriculum while fostering strong reading, writing, speaking, listening, and critical thinking skills.

The ideal candidate is committed to developing students’ communication abilities, literary analysis skills, creativity, and confidence in using English in both academic and real-world contexts.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver high-quality ELA lessons aligned with the American Common Core Standards
  • Teach middle and/or high school English Language Arts courses, including:
    • Reading Comprehension
    • Academic Writing
    • Grammar and Language Skills
    • Literature Analysis
    • Research and Presentation Skills
    • Creative Writing
  • Foster a positive and engaging literacy-rich classroom environment
  • Utilize student-centered, inquiry-based, and discussion-based teaching approaches
  • Encourage critical thinking, analytical reading, and effective communication skills
  • Differentiate instruction to support diverse learning needs and language abilities
  • Integrate technology and interactive learning strategies into instruction

Assessment & Student Progress

  • Design and administer formative and summative assessments
  • Evaluate student writing and provide constructive feedback for improvement
  • Monitor, record, and report student progress accurately and consistently
  • Support students in developing independent reading and writing habits

Classroom Management

  • Maintain a respectful, inclusive, and academically focused classroom environment
  • Establish clear classroom expectations and routines
  • Promote collaboration, participation, and student engagement

Communication & Collaboration

  • Communicate professionally with parents regarding academic progress and student well-being
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences, ILP meetings, and school events
  • Collaborate with colleagues and school leadership on curriculum planning and interdisciplinary learning opportunities
  • Contribute positively to the school community

Professional Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and professional development sessions
  • Uphold school policies, safeguarding standards, and professional ethics
  • Participate in extracurricular activities and school initiatives when appropriate
  • Perform other reasonable duties assigned by school leadership

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, English Education, Literature, Education, or a related field
  • Valid teaching qualification/license
  • Minimum 3 years of ELA or English teaching experience preferred
  • Experience teaching American Common Core curriculum is highly preferred
  • International school experience is an advantage
  • Strong classroom management and communication skills
  • Fluent English proficiency (spoken and written)
