The Post
Maplewood International School is currently seeking a high-performing ELL Language Teacher. The current vacancy is based in Abu Dhabi.
Maplewood International School is a Canadian Curriculum school and has full accreditation from Alberta Education which is the highest performing province in Canada. Canada consistently ranks in the top two or three countries in the world on international standardized testing programs.
Students attending MWIS experience this high quality and receive an Alberta High School Diploma on graduation. This diploma is rated highly desirable in terms of accessing post-secondary institutions around the world. Responsibilities:
- Providing English Language Learning Support for students through Primary
- Key supporter of the Teacher in ensuring ELL student progression and development through the provision of extra 1-1 sessions, tailoring curriculum/unit delivery.
- Recording and reporting progress, areas of concern and achievements about supported students with relevant stakeholders as appropriate
- Work closely with various Learning Support teams across the school to promote the school's inclusive practice and continuously improve its ELL students' learning capabilities and academic English language standards.
- Provide training for class teachers and support staff in supporting ELL students across all areas of the curriculum.

MWIS is a leader in curriculum delivery, offering programming in English and Arabic at all grades as well as a new French program in KG and Grade 1. In future years, students will be able to study the Alberta (Canada) curriculum at all grades in either English or French. Arabic is a significant language program for students in all programs.
With full Alberta accreditation, students earn an Alberta High School Diploma identical to the one being earned by students studying in Alberta or other accredited international schools. The school is very proud of this accreditation as it is only attained through high performance in terms of program delivery and requires the school to maintain teaching staff with Alberta certification. As a result the majority of teachers are Canadian trained with others coming from jurisdictions meeting Canadian teaching standards.

Job Requirements
You must be a fully qualified teacher with:
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as an ELL teacher within a high performing department, preferably within a British Curriculum school
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience as a classroom teacher would be preferable
- A certified professional teaching qualification, such as B.Ed, PGCE or equivalent specializing in EAL, ELL or similar
- Additional qualification or specialism such as a TEFL/IELTs/CELTA/Cambridge certification is an advantage
- Ability to build strong relationships with students, parents and colleagues
- Ability to assess student performance, write language plans and set appropriate goals for students to ensure progress
- Experience of the Canadian curriculum is desirable but not required.
- A commitment to an extensive enrichment program
- Recent and consistent involvement in extra-curricular activities
- Respect for all members of your school community
- Experience with students for whom English is an additional language
- A positive and solution-focused attitude to working life
- A clean enhanced Disclosure and Barring Services or Police check
