Position Purpose
To work with children who need extra support and guidance, to teach in a way that helps them reach
their full potential. To be responsible for identification and intervention for students with needs, including
planning, assessment, monitoring and implementation of Individual Education Plans.
To direct the supporting staff working with the class. To work effectively as a member of a multi-
disciplinary team.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Use excellent subject knowledge, pedagogic and interpersonal skills to enthuse students
and enable students to enjoy learning.
To support students with physical, emotional, behavioural or learning difficulties and to
enable their full or appropriate access to the school curriculum.
To develop plans of action, schemes of work and materials to support such pupils’ progress
within the curriculum.
To be involved in identifying all levels of need, planning and reviewing appropriate and
effective interventions.
In collaboration with the SENCO through weekly meetings, support and advise mainstream
subject teachers to define appropriate activities for the pupils and to maintain and update all
appropriate data and reports.
To provide detailed SEN reports concerning individual pupils as required.
To liaise with parents and if required other agencies, such as the medical profession, social
workers, speech and language therapists and educational psychologists.
Plan sessions taking in full account of students’ individual learning needs, as well as their
individual learning styles, preferences and capabilities.
Engage and motivate students to achieve at levels that are beyond their expectations and
previous limits.
Make full use of ICT and new technologies to enhance the quality of teaching and learning
for students of all ages and attainment levels.
Co-operate with colleagues to establish and maintain fair, consistent and positive behavior
management in the classroom, around the school and on school trips.
Maintain high levels of confidentiality when speaking to parents and external parties.
Actively support the school partnership with the community - attending school / community
events which may occasionally occur at weekends or in the evening.
Maintaining excellent professional relationships with colleagues by making a wider
professional contribution to the continuing improvement of the school.
Contribute to a culture where teachers view themselves as facilitators of learning and are
reflective practitioners.
Participate in ongoing in service and education development opportunities.
Other responsibilities as reasonably requested.
Professional Duties and Responsibilities
To embed UAE heritage and culture within the curriculum.
Plan and prepare appropriate and required documentation.
Make records of and reports on the personal and social needs of students.
Assess, record and report on the development, progress and attainment of the students in
classes or individualized sessions.
Provide or contribute to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to
individual students or groups of students.
Guide students to set targets to improve on their previous ‘best’.
Participate in arrangements for her/his further training and professional development as a
SEN teacher.
Qualifications, Experience and Competencies
A recognized teaching qualification (i.e. Qualified Teacher Status).
A relevant Inclusion/SEN qualification.
Experience in working in an Inclusion department.
An understanding of or previous experience of working with children for whom English is a
Second or Additional Language would be beneficial.
Demonstrate professionalism, commitment and integrity.
Inter-culturally aware with well-developed communication skills.
Innovative, motivated, resourceful, flexible, patient and can persevere.
Outgoing, positive and enthusiastic.
Good spoken communication skills.
The ability to encourage people and put them at ease.
