Qualifications

Principals must hold at least an earned Master's Degree, preferably in Educational Administration.  Principals must also either a) hold a valid professional certificate, with an appropriate position endorsement, from a recognized governmental authority, or b) meet the requirements of the school's accreditation agency.

Principals will have demonstrated professional ability through successful teaching and administrative experience.

Duties:

Principals are expected to function in accordance with the school's policies and procedures, providing effective leadership in the administration and supervision of program and personnel in their respective divisions.

  1. Communicate regularly and effectively with staff and community on matters pertinent to the respective school division.
  2. Supervise all staff assigned to the respective school division, including office and support staff.
  3. Evaluate instructional and support personnel, recommending changes when and if appropriate.
  4. Provide guidance and assistance for teachers and/or other staff whose performance is not meeting expectations.
  5. Provide for focused in-service for their staffs, either as a separate division or in conjunction with others, as appropriate.
  6. Provide for the division-level orientation for new staff, whether locals or overseas hired, regardless of when new staff members joint the faculty during the school year.
  7. Assign staff to teaching and other duties as required by the program.
  8. Supervise instruction; assuring that the school's Curriculum is being implemented as prescribed in policy and regulation.
  9. Plan course needs, teacher workloads, and master schedules for the next school year.
  10. Review curriculum and evaluate programs, making suggestions for revisions and modifications as appropriate.
  11. Supervise the adoption, ordering and inventory of materials, texts, supplies, and equipment for their respective school divisions.
  12. Effectively mediate conflicts that may arise involving teachers and students, parents and/or other staff.
  13. Provide for class schedules, coordinating the use of common facilities with the other principals.
  14. Interview and make recommendations on the admission of new students.
  15. Promote involvement in academic and athletic competitions.
  16. Attend extra-curricular events, especially supporting competitions.
  17. Monitor attendance, all term grades and reports, and discipline data.
  18. Provide for the implementation of the school's discipline policies and regulations.
  19. Coordinate the graduation function for the respective division.
  20. Provide for formal Parent/Teacher conferences twice annually.
  21. Secure substitute teachers as required.
  22. Provide for staff check-out at the end of each year, to include inventories, cleaning, storage, orders and other such tasks as necessary.
  23. Report needs for maintenance, repairs and security.
  24. Provide leadership in the profession through memberships and participation in professional associations.
