About BGC HUNGARY

Boys and Girls Clubs of Hungary (BGC) is an award-winning English acquisition program that focuses on creating a fun, active environment for English language acquisition for children at all ages of development. We work with children between the ages of 3 to 14 years to develop a full understanding of the English language through direct English input from our native English teachers.

About us

BGC Hungary was founded in 2011 and is the first European sister club of the renowned Boys and Girls Clubs of America (BGCA). As a result of this partnership with BGC America, BGC Hungary retains access to the topic and age-specific curricula they have developed, as well as maintaining our own well-developed curriculum and resource libraries.

In Hungary, the BGC English Program currently operates in eight public educational institutions throughout Budapest, Fót, and Dunakeszi. We employ over thirty teachers across multiple educational sites in the city. Our teachers are from varied native English-speaking countries and academic backgrounds. These teachers all teach our children according to the expertly curated BGC curriculum.

At present, we teach English language skills to approximately 750 children between the ages of 3 – 14.

In 2020, BGC Hungary joined the World Federation of Youth Clubs and through this partnership, we work toward our shared goal of excellence in ‘empowering youth’ through.

Our Ethos

At BGC, we do not emphasise conscious learning, grammar rules and tedious language development. Instead, we focus on the spontaneous learning processes, and replicate the natural learning environment that allowed us to develop our native tongue. The language skills developed and synthesised in this way are much more efficient and allows our students to gain extensive communication and verbal skills in the English language. Our Program Goal is for children participating in the program to learn English as a way of life and natural experience, through everyday topics and life situations that interest and engage them.

BGC Hungary strives to establish and maintain a natural learning environment for children that allows them to develop and explore the English language in a positive, supportive environment. We employ native English speakers to achieve this environment, which also focuses upon fun and engaging lessons for children so that English acquisition is seamless, natural, and stress-free. To maintain a fun and engaging environment, BGC does not use any form of vocabulary tests, exams or assessments for our children. Instead, we encourage a communication-oriented exploration of the language that results in a level of English proficiency not typically achieved in more traditional environments.

BGC Hungary also passionately believes that its greatest asset is its teachers. Our staff allow us to provide a unique and invaluable experience for our children. We therefore strive to make our teachers’ lives as comfortable as possible, offering assistance with the immigration process, accommodation, and emergency situations. BGC is often described by its teachers as a family – and it is this BGC family environment which allows us to succeed across all aspects of our program.

Structure of the Program

  • The BGC English Kindergarten Program runs for 3 (+1) years. Our small, middle and large group English language programs are fully adapted to the Hungarian kindergarten curriculum. From 8:00 am to 13.00 pm, a native English teacher and a Hungarian kindergarten teacher work together with the children to create a dual-language environment.
  • Our BGC English School Program runs for 4 + 4 years. The BGC English Afterschool Program operates in grades 1-4, meanwhile, we offer the BGC English Workshop in grades 5-8.

The Afterschool BGC English Program is solely taught in English with native English speakers who work collaboratively with the Hungarian afternoon teachers, and as a result fully integrates into the Hungarian education system.
