Job Description:

The Music Teacher performs under the supervision and support of the Curriculum Director and has major responsibility for the instruction and supervision of students.

Key Responsibilities:

Focused on exploration, the processes of listening and creating music, integrates The Orff philosophy for teaching music:

Explores a steady beat, then uneven beat
Explores rhythm sticks leading to barred instruments
Explores color instruments and concept of melody using the instruments to enhance songs- mallet technique exercises.
Sings short songs with limited pitches involving movement, songs with repetition, dramatization of songs, emphasis on use of props such as scarves, hats, puppets, introduction to concept of high and low sounds/pitch
Sing familiar songs, chants, and finger plays
Demonstrates understanding of loud and soft volumes
Uses the Montessori ‘bells’ for tone matching and composition
Listens to musical stories
Improvises songs and rhythmic patterns
Changes words or tune of familiar songs to make new songs
Integrates poetry with music
