Job Description

Role Overview

The Primary Classroom Teacher is responsible for planning and delivering engaging, developmentally appropriate instruction that supports the academic, social, and emotional development of young learners.

The role focuses on creating a nurturing, inclusive, and well-structured classroom environment, building foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, and inquiry, and fostering a love of learning. A strong background in special education is essential, with the ability to effectively support students with a wide range of learning needs.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning

  • Plan and deliver creative, age-appropriate lessons aligned with the primary curriculum
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learning needs, including students with additional or complex needs
  • Build strong foundations in literacy, numeracy, and core subject areas
  • Use a variety of teaching strategies, including hands-on and interactive learning
  • Assess, monitor, and report on student progress and development

 

Student Development

  • Support students’ social, emotional, and behavioral development
  • Implement appropriate accommodations and interventions to support diverse learners
  • Establish clear routines and maintain positive classroom management
  • Create a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment
  • Foster independence, curiosity, and a positive attitude toward learning
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding progress and wellbeing

 

Collaboration and School Contribution

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to plan curriculum and support student needs
  • Engage with SENCo and support staff to ensure effective provision for all learners
  • Participate in meetings, professional development, and school initiatives
  • Contribute to whole-school activities, events, and extracurricular programs
  • Build strong partnerships with families and the wider school community


Administration and Professional Duties

  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, planning, assessment, and student progress
  • Complete reports and required documentation in a timely manner
  • Supervise students during break, lunch, and other assigned duties
  • Provide class cover when required within agreed guidelines
  • Organize and maintain classroom resources and learning materials

Key Outcomes

  • Students demonstrate measurable progress in literacy, numeracy, and core subjects
  • Students with diverse learning needs make consistent progress through targeted differentiation, interventions, and accommodations
  • Individual learning needs are effectively identified and supported through inclusive teaching practices
