POSITION: Secondary Science Teacher 

REPORTS TO: Secondary Principal

FTE: Full Time

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The Secondary Science Teacher plans and delivers rigorous, standards-aligned instruction across science disciplines (biology, chemistry, physics, or integrated science) that promotes scientific literacy, inquiry, critical thinking, and problem-solving. This role fosters academic growth, laboratory safety and skills, and the development of evidence-based reasoning. The teacher models high standards and expectations, aligns instruction with the school’s philosophy and curriculum, upholds the school mission and vision, and exemplifies the values of leadership, wisdom, and integrity. The position requires collaboration with colleagues, engagement in continuous professional learning, and partnership with families to support student success.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified educator in Secondary Science
  • Minimum 2 years successful teaching experience in high school science 
  • Strong content knowledge in assigned science discipline(s) and experience delivering inquiry-based, lab-centered instruction 
  • Proficiency with formative and summative assessment, data analysis, and differentiated instruction 
  • Experience designing and supervising safe laboratory experiences and adhering to safety protocols 
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom/lab management skills; culturally responsive practice 
  • Demonstrated commitment to high expectations, rigorous instruction, and measurable student growth 
  • Alignment with the school’s mission, vision, and values of leadership, wisdom, and integrity


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver developmentally appropriate, standards-aligned lessons that promote scientific inquiry, conceptual understanding, and application of scientific practices 
  • Design and supervise safe, engaging laboratory and hands-on investigations; enforce safety protocols and maintain laboratory equipment and materials 
  • Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, provide targeted interventions, and extend learning for advanced students 
  • Use a variety of assessment tools to monitor student progress, inform instruction, and maintain accurate records of learning outcomes 
  • Set and maintain high academic and behavioral expectations; use rigorous, scaffolded instruction to support student mastery and critical thinking 
  • Integrate cross-curricular connections and real-world applications to make learning relevant and engaging 
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, goals, and strategies to support learning at home; participate in conferences and outreach events 
  • Collaborate with department colleagues, interdisciplinary teams, and leadership to align curriculum, develop units, and share best practices 
  • Model and reinforce the school’s mission and vision; actively promote leadership, wisdom, and integrity among students and colleagues 
  • Participate in professional development, department meetings, and school-wide initiatives; contribute to professional learning communities 
  • Supervise students during labs, field experiences, and school activities as assigned to ensure safety and well-being 
  • Maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and contribute to program documentation and compliance as requested by leadership 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the High School Principal or Department Head
