Qualification:

  • Candidate shall possess a DPI-certified School Social Worker certification or be eligible for emergency certification.
  • Experience working with at-risk populations is highly recommended.

Special Qualifications:

  • Successful experience providing mental health and/or behavioral support with school-aged children.
  • Experience in crisis intervention and counseling. Experience working with children exposed to trauma.
  • Knowledge of public educational goals.
  • Knowledge of, and ability to apply, state and federal regulations as they pertain to general and special education services.
  • Knowledge of community resources and ability to help families access these resources as appropriate to overcome barriers to learning.
  • The ability to cooperate with other school personnel in meeting overall District, school, and social work goals.

MISD has a full-time position available as a School Social Worker at the Menominee Indian Middle School for the 2022-2023 school year. The overall goal of this position is to enhance the social and emotional well-being of children in the District grades 6-8 classes as a part of the District’s Trauma Responsive Schools initiative that works in partnership with our Tribal community.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide classroom guidance for grades 6-8 in the area of social-emotional learning (SEL).
  • Help meet student needs, coordinate school and community services such as those provided by daycare centers, dental, medical and mental health, work-orientation centers, county welfare agencies, family service agencies, community action programs, and other human service organizations;
  • Collaborate with other professionals in classroom management with specific regard to aspects of the curriculum concerned with social and emotional development, behavior family cooperation, and adaptive behaviors as they relate to cultural background, experiences, and linguistic variables utilizing evidence-based approaches that emphasize prevention and early intervention;
  • Work with principals/staff to identify children, and school staff to prevent truancy in individualized cases; assist with referrals to juvenile court intake, and provide monitoring of cases after referral and disposition; provide crisis follow-up and coordination services to families and children after traumatic family incidents; provide linkage to, and advocacy for, community resources that a family may need for;
  • Willing to be trained in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES), Trauma Smart, Historical Trauma & Restorative Practices.
