• Develop in each student skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing that are fundamental to

effective communication and literate citizenship.

• Ability to provide an active and communicative approach to learning English with clarity, accuracy

and relevance to culture

• Knowledge of and the ability to implement effective and inclusive teaching and learning processes,

including the use of learning technology and assessment, to establish a challenging learning

environment in which learners are encouraged to work towards attainment of their potential

• Experience with second language learners

• Develop appreciation of good literature of all types.

• Motivate students to read widely for information and recreation.

Develop standards for critical judgment of written and oral communications transmitted by mass

media.

• Discover and develop special talents of students in the field of English to prepare each student to

meet the California & Common Core standards.

• Teach content and skills in English language, literature, composition, reading, journalism to

secondary school students, utilizing curriculum designated by IPS.

• Adapt English material and methods to develop relevant sequential assignments and lesson plans

that guide and challenge students.

• Develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the division’s basic

instructional philosophy and congruent with California & Common Core standards; provide

individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each

student and subgroups of students.

• Evaluate each student’s progress in meeting the course standards for English skills (listening,

speaking, reading and writing).
