Class Teacher

The Class teacher should be an informed, reflective practitioner who uses inquiry based strategies to create positive learning environments, which motivate and challenge all learners in their class to become self-regulated, life-long learners and leaders. The Class Teacher will be responsible for working with and supporting the Academic School Coordinator and the Director on the following key school leadership and management areas. This will involve accepting delegated responsibility for aspects of these key areas. To provide professional leadership which secures, in consultation with the Preschool Coordinator and Director, the success and improvement of the school, ensuring high quality education and care for the pupils so that they are safe and happy at school, enabled to be successful learners and thus achieving high standards. The Class teacher will also carry out the professional duties of a teacher as circumstances may require and in accordance with the school's policies under the direction of the Preschool Coordinator and Director. All teachers are accountable for the progress that the pupils they teach make during an academic year. All teachers must understand that curriculum content and material taught have to lay the foundation for the Cambridge International Primary Program.

Professional Responsibilities - The Class teacher will be responsible for working with and supporting the Preschool Coordinator and Director on the following key school leadership and management areas. This will involve accepting responsibility for aspects of these key areas.

Teaching and Learning

  • Providing an example of ‘excellence’ as a leading classroom practitioner and inspiring and motivating other staff
  • Working with the Preschool Coordinator to sustain high expectations and excellent practice in teaching and learning throughout the school
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and standards of pupil’s achievement and use benchmarks and set targets for improvement
  • To be involved in ‘lesson study’ with other members of staff (team teaching in triads) to raise pupil’s standards of achievement and to evaluate practice

Leading and Managing staff

  • Working with the Preschool Coordinator and Director to lead, motivate, support, challenge and develop all staff to secure continual improvement including his/her own continual professional development
  • To be responsible for school and international assessments and inductions of pupils; including new pupils assessments/entry exams
  • To lead Co-Teachers in Performance Management and training development

Efficient and effective deployment of staff and resources

In consultation with, and by the direction of the Preschool Coordinator and Director, deploy people and resources efficiently and effectively to meet specific objectives in line with the school’s plan and financial context i.e. cover supervision timetables, deployment school teaching resources and supply staff and school timetables and deployment. Example staff duty roster for morning welcome/playground supervision/ After-School activities

Specific Duties

  • Deputize for the Preschool Coordinator in her absence
  • Vet lesson plans and turn them in to the Preschool Coordinator for her perusal
  • Take a major role in the day-to-day running of the school – i.e. pupil assessments, responsibilities of Co-Teachers
  • Contribute to a positive ethos for learning by helping assistant teachers
  • Provide an exciting, stimulating and creative curriculum for Summer School
  • Co-ordinate and implement Extra Curricular Activities and After-School Program
  • Manage the schools’ lunchtime arrangements
  • Assist with the appointment and induction of new staff and provide monitoring and support for students who need learning support
  • Lead in the co-ordination of the school performances (Christmas/End of Term) and School Event (Bazaar, Literacy Week)
  • Undertake such reasonable activities as the Preschool Coordinator may, from time to time require

General requirements

All Little Blessings Preschool staff are expected to:

  • Work towards and support the vision and the current objectives outlined in the Little Blessings Preschool Development Plan.
  • Contribute to the school program of co-curricular activities.
  • Maintain an exceptionally CLEAN environment at ALL TIMES
